Here is a Not-So-Scary Story About Networking

Posted on by Jennifer Henczel

It’s a Connect Now kind of story!

Connect-Now-Halloween-01-300

I wanted to tell you this story of reciprocity and and the value of connecting…

Networking face-to-face takes extra energy and effort. Have you ever found yourself saying, “Do I really feel like going out networking tonight” or “Can I really spare the time right now to meet more people” – we’ve all been there, right? But, we know it’s the best thing we can do for our souls and our business.  You never know how your connections will change lives

Well, this is one of those stories. I was having a very busy day, but I really wanted to make it to my friend’s event – Christine Awram of WOW’s event at Krause Berry Farms. I made the effort and I went, and of course, I had a great time! I was especially impressed with my friend and incredible speaker – Monique MacDonald.

I went home and told my husband Paul about Christine’s amazing event, and about Monique’s very interesting talk about the Chaos Cycle. I knew Monique for some time before that, but that evening, I was particularly inspired and impressed by her insights. Her approach and style of presentation resonated with me deeply. (I highly recommend getting to her next talk if you can.)

Paul then told his student group about it, in an upper level course he is taking at UFV. They are tasked with planning, promoting and conducting an event, and asked if I would connect them with Monique, and ask her to speak at their event.

I did, and she said “YES”! The student group was so excited.

As a result, now Monique will help even more people and get exposure to Employee Development and HR professionals throughout the Fraser Valley, the students will learn valuable skills, and because they were able to get a well-known speaker, one of the students was able to bring on some very generous sponsors.

Thanks to their sponsors, there will be fully sponsored appies and the event is complimentary to attend, the reciprocity goes around. The students are asking for non-perishable food items to be donated at the door instead of a meetup fee. The students will be posting information about their event sponsors on their Facebook Event page, where you can also RSVP and get more details.

Do you have a story of connection like that? It’s really worth making the effort to get out and connect. Post your story or comments on our page.

This event is completely produced by the UFV students, but I agreed to be a sponsor and help spread the word, so you can see the event below and listed in our Facebook event listings.

Please note that these UFV students are looking for very specific attendees to complete their project. It is a networking event for HR Managers and Business Owners – preferably who have employees. If you are either of those – or if you just want to attend to support Paul 🙂 – or if you know someone in those roles, please SHARE this event below.
